Goodreads Book Description
Waverly Camdenmar spends her nights running until she can’t even think. Then the sun comes up, life goes on, and Waverly goes back to her perfectly hateful best friend, her perfectly dull classes, and the tiny, nagging suspicion that there’s more to life than student council and GPAs.
Marshall Holt is a loser. He drinks on school nights and gets stoned in the park. He is at risk of not graduating, he does not care, he is no one. He is not even close to being in Waverly’s world.
But then one night Waverly falls asleep and dreams herself into Marshall’s bedroom—and when the sun comes up, nothing in her life can ever be the same. In Waverly’s dreams, the rules have changed. But in her days, she’ll have to decide if it’s worth losing everything for a boy who barely exists.
Why I’m Excited
There are so many things that are intriguing about this book! The mention of the hateful best friend has me all kinds of interested. Is this a toxic friendship where Waverly doesn’t really like her best friend but still sticks around her because, well, it’s high school? Or is this a situation where the best friend is a bad ass independent and other people love to hate her because she’s brutally honest and takes no crap? I’d prefer option number two, because that was basically me in a nutshell in high school, so I love reading about it! Then there is the slight fantasy aspect, which I don’t think is going to be a huge part of this story and I’m totally okay with that (though I may be wrong about it not being a huge part of the story, because no matter how hard I try I just can’t seem to see the future, so I’m going off of my gut here). I’m interested to see just how much fantasy versus contemporary romance this book is – what is the balance going to be? How is the author going to pull off explaining the fantasy aspects and Waverly’s wild dream jumping abilities while still building the world and relationships outside of the fantasy? Lastly, but certainly not leastly (heh – sorry I thought it was funny), there is the inevitable love story with the troubled boy, which just, come on, so much fun! Reading the expert alone for this book has planted so many questions in my mind (Do Marshall and Waverly know each other before she pops up into his dreams? Does Marshall know that Waverly is in his dreams, or is this more of a she sees him but he doesn’t see her kind of deal?) GAHH! Gimme now please!
