TTT – Vacation Reading List

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature has a different (usually) book related topic each week, and the goal is to compose a list of ten things that correspond to the topic!

This week’s theme is:  Books I Plan to Read on Vacations this Year

I’m fortunate this summer to have a few different trips planned. I’ll be spending a week in the middle of the woods in Pennsylvania with my family, I’ve got some long weekends planned in Virginia and Tennessee, and I’m also lucky enough to be heading to Rio de Janeiro for the Paralympics! So, right along with creating packing lists, I’m also creating my reading lists! Below are the books that I’m hoping to get read over my various vacations this year:

The Series

 Summer Series

Summer series by Jenny Han

I feel like these are an obvious choice. The name of the series is Summer and the word summer appears in every title … yeah, obvious choice, Kayla, way to think outside of the box! But anyways, I’ve been saving these specifically for summer since I acquired the box set earlier this year.  They look like perfect pool/beach reads, and I’ll totally be able to immerse myself right into them if it’s warm, sunny, and I’ve got a bathing suit on. Plus, it’s Jenny Han, and I freaking love Jenny Han!

Lumatere Chronicles

Lumatere Chronicles series by Melina Marchetta

I purchased this series on my Kindle after Jamie at Perpetual Page-Turner raved about them. They sound so amazing (and those covers – can we just enjoy those for a second  please?), and after reading what she had to say about them, I can tell these are going to be addictive reads that I’m just going to want to devour back to back to back. Therefore, I’ve been saving these for a time when I’ve got a lot of flight time on my hands, so my pending trip to Rio is PERFECT! I can never sleep on flights, even if it’s a red eye, so a three and a half hour flight followed by a ten hour flight offer up ALL THE READING TIME IN THE WORLD! Who needs sleep when you have awesome books anyways? Just need to make sure to charge up my Kindle!

The Light Reads

Light Reads

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld

Morgan Matson is a super hero in my eyes; I loved Second Chance Summer and Since You’ve Been Gone so much. I couldn’t get my hands on The Unexpected Everything fast enough, and the cover of this just screams summer read! Curtis Sittenfeld is equally super heroish and the author of one of my all-time favorite books, which I’ve talked about in other posts, Prep. I’m excited to read this re-do of Pride and Prejudice and see how she creates the story in her own voice. Sometimes when I’m on vacation I just can’t get into heavier reads that require lots of brain activity and thought processing, and these look perfect for those times!

The Heavy Reads

Heavy Reads

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke

…But sometimes when I’m on vacation I can get into heavier reads that require lots of brain activity and thought processing, and these look perfect for those times! Rebel in the Sands looks totally badass! I mean, the first line on Goodreads is “She’s more gunpowder than girl—and the fate of the desert lies in her hands”, sooo uh YEAH, this sounds awesome! Also, it’s got nothing but amazing praise from everyone I trust with book reviews. Wink Poppy Midnight, on the other hand, has been getting mixed reviews from everyone I trust with book reviews (dun dun dun!), but it looks like such a unique story, and I think that is going to make this one easy to get lost in. Color me intrigued!
