TTT – Villains!

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature has a different (usually) book related topic each week, and the goal is to compose a list of ten things that correspond to the topic!

This week’s theme is:  Villains!

Thinking about this topic, I realized I have more love for bad guys than I do hate. Probably why I’m a proud Slytherin. Anyways… some may not consider some of the below as actual villains, but just characters in books, and that’s fine (although you’re wrong – heh, just kidding, kind of). I’ll be the first to admit that some of these characters do not conform to the standard definition of evil, but in one way or another they’ve done some bad shit, or they’ve gotten themselves a wonderful following of haters, and that’s good enough for me for count them as a villain. Here we go!

Villains that I Love

♥ Khalid from The Wrath and the Dawn: Sure, he’s got this bad habit of taking a new young bride each night and then killing said bride at dawn. We all have our bad habits, don’t we? Plus, it’s not his fault, y’all! There are extenuating circumstances! Love him. Don’t hate him for the skeletons in his closet.

♥ Draco from Harry Potter: I have been a Draco lover since before the Harry Potter movies came out and Tom Felton graced the world with his loveliness. I can’t even pinpoint what made me love Draco, it just happened. Love at first read. I was probably the only one pissed off when Hermione punched him in the face.

♥ Bellatrix from Harry Potter: I’ll admit that I was not a fan of Bellatrix in the books, but I am a Helena Bonham Carter fan, and she effing NAILED Bellatrix as a character. So much respect, and it made me appreciate the character more. Plus, Bellatrix in the movies looks an awful lot like my older sister (crazy eyes, wild hair, it is scarily spot on to my sister), so I think that gives me a little bit of soft spot as well.

♥ Auduen from Truthwitch: I started out this book really disliking Auduen. He was such a thorn in the side, but he really grew on me. His story line is such an interesting one, and probably the one that I’m most excited for the series to continue to explore. He also makes me laugh.

♥ Maven from The Red Queen: Okay, this one is an “I hate him because he is doing some messed up stuff but I still don’t hate him all the time and I’m not sure why” pick. I just, I don’t know. I can’t truly believe that he’s as evil as he’s coming off to be. Like, there has to be something else going on. There has to be a thread of the sweetheart that he came off to be in there somewhere. Right? Right? Or I’m just getting played and my mind doesn’t know what’s going on. That’s probably it. Wouldn’t be the first time.

♥ Villain Who Shall Not Be Named from Dangerous Girls: Brilliant. That is all.

Villains that I Hate

× Alfred from Salt to the Sea: This douche bag is the worst. I can honestly say that it’s rare that I have such hatred for someone while I’m reading. I still think about this character and get pissed off.

× Jules from The Fill-In Boyfriend: I’m the type of person that can laugh at myself. This is one of those times. Yes, I giggle at how ridiculous it is that I hate this fictional girl so much. It seems like a waste of energy, but I still cannot shake how much I freaking loathe Jules. I read this in May 2015 and I’m still going strong in my hatred because she’s such an evil mean girl awful human.

× The Jackal from Red Rising: He was a messed up individual who did some seriously messed up stuff, and that is why I hate him. Plus, Darrow is my dude, and anybody against Darrow is against me! But… I give respect where respect is due, and the Jackal definitely deserves like the *tiniest* little bit of respect for his cunning ways. To quote Ollivander from Harry Potter, “After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things. Terrible! Yes. But great.” I feel the same about the Jackal.

× General Trajan (Kestrel’s father) in The Winner’s Trilogy: I RESPECT MY ELDERS USUALLY BUT I SWEAR IF THIS MAN WAS A REAL LIFE HUMAN I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO SLAP HIM RIGHT IN HIS STUPID FACE. Ugh, unsupportive parents really bother me. Manipulative parents are even worse. After the first book, I thought maybe he would get better. Nope, didn’t happen in the second book, and sure as shit didn’t happen in the third either. I was really hoping for someone to end this dude.

Just for fun, do you want to know who else is a villain that I hate? Whomever the person was that used the last ingredients needed to make my Chai Tea Latte this morning, thus not allowing me to get my Chai Tea Latte. I DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE, BUT YOU KNOW WHO  YOU ARE, AND I KIND OF HATE YOU.

That is all.

So Tell Me

Who are some of your favorite, or least favorite, villains?

  1. Reg @ She Latitude says:

I actually really love Maven, and I 100% believe that Red Queen would be SO MUCH BETTER if he was the main love interest instead of Cal. Cal just came across to be as… boring, whereas Maven was more complex and three-dimensional and flawed. Obviously, my bias is showing here. 😛

  2. Becca says:

I adored Maven in Red Queen, but after the Glass Sword…. idk how to feel!! Like, where is the sweet guy gone??? That wasn’t completely a lie RIGHT?!?!
